AUD/USD: Australian Dollar vs U.S. Dollar

The AUD/USD Currency Cross has the Australian Dollar as the base currency and the United States Dollar as the quote currency. Nicknamed the “Aussie”, the Australian Dollar was created in 1966 when Australia decided to replace the Australian Pound (and shilling) with a decimal system and is now the Commonwealth of Australia’s official currency.

As of April, 2013, by some reports, the Australian Dollar is the fifth most traded currency accounting for 8.6% of the Foreign Exchange Daily Market.

Considered the world’s 12th largest economy, Australia has a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of approximately $US 1.7 Trillion with a total wealth of approximately $US 6.74 Trillion.

Factors Affecting the AUD/USD currency pair

As a large exporter of commodities, the AUD is also a ‘commodity currency’ or the AUD/USD is a commodity cross. As a result of commodity exports, the AUD currency is sensitive to fluctuations in commodity prices.

Other factors which bear on rising and/or falling AUD currency rates are interest rates, rates of inflation, trade balance, and the RBA which is the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Bank Rate

The Central Bank Rate, used to lend money domestically. BASE CURRENCY (VS. QUOTE CURRENCY)

Currency is traded in pairs or crosses – one is your ‘base’ currency, the first currency quoted in the currency cross or pair, and the other is the ‘quote’ currency – buying one currency while simultaneously selling the other. For example, the Euro is normally paired against multiple currencies such as the U.S. Dollar (or EUR/USD), the British Pound (sometimes referred to as the British Cable – EUR/GBP), or the Australian Dollar (EUR/ AUD).

The currency pair shows how much of the quote currency is needed to purchase one unit of the base currency. The ‘bid’ (buy price) represents how much of the quote currency is needed for you to get one unit of the base currency. Conversely, when you sell the currency pair, you sell the base currency and receive the quote currency. The ‘ask’ (sell price) for the currency pair is what you would receive in the quote currency for selling one unit of base currency.

The Binary Corporate Binary Options Forex Trading Platform has simplified currency trading, refining the process into an art form. Opening an account is a simple 1, 2, 3 process. Start Trading Today!

Binary Options

What Are Binary Options?

Binary Options are limited risk options contracts. Often called “All or Nothing”, Binary options are usually categorized as either a cash-or-nothing binary option or an asset-or-nothing binary option.

Essentially, a binary option is a call / put, yes / no, up or down proposition meaning that there are only two possible outcomes; either you are correct or incorrect as to the exact direction the price of the underlying asset will move – up or down (virtually impossible, but a binary option can expire at the exact same price – 3rd outcome)

To put it in a simpler term – Binary Options is directional trading. In trading, there’s an expression – “The Trend is Your Friend” – you either make this your golden rule, or you lose all your money. Here at Binary Corporate, we’ve been trend and directional trading for many years. Successfully.

When Google recently broke expected earnings Spring 2014, we were on the phone immediately to our Gold and Platinum Investing Groups, who then earned as much as 500% on their money by repeatedly executing winning trade after trade on our Platform.

Benefits of Trading on Binary Corporate’s Binary Options Trading Platform Trading Binary Options is today’s simplest, most innovative method for trading all the asset classes that normally require extensive education and training, including the complexities of the other trading platforms.

On the flip side are Binary Options. First, all your risks are immediately defined before you begin trading. Second, only you can determine how much to win or lose on each trade. You know exactly how much you will win or lose as opposed to traditional trading where you could possibly lose your entire account if you are not careful.

With binary options, all your trade parameters, all your risk parameters are clearly defined before you execute the trade. Therefore, no need for stop losses, profit limits, no need to even constantly monitor the trade.

At expiration the option will be worthless or the exact return you chose before executing the trade. Also, since you are not purchasing the underlying instrument (commodity, stock, index, forex) again you have limited, defined risk before you begin.

With Binary Corporate, we make trading binary options easy and simple, as opposed to difficult and complex.

How to execute a Binary Options Trade

Executing a Binary Options Trade with Binary Corporate is a simple and easy 4 step process.
First, you choose what asset group and which asset within that group you wish to trade – for example, you might choose commodities, then gold.

1) Pick the asset group – stock, commodity, forex, index – and then pick the underlying instrument – EUR/USD, Gold, Google, etc.

Second, you choose the specific time frame for the trade – do you want the trade to expire in 1 minute, 30 minutes? 1 hour (or longer)?

For example, if you think Gold at $1440 will drop below $1440 in the next minute, and you want to risk $100, you choose sell and if you’re correct, you will win approximately $85. If you are incorrect and Gold after 1 minute expired at $1441, then you lost the $100.

You have an opportunity to execute trades in 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour and longer and normally earn anywhere from 75-90% and even 300% or more on your investment. Quite a lucrative return for such a short time frame.

Third, you decide exactly how much money you want to invest, how much you want to win. $12, $500, $5000! Next,

2) Choose the type of Binary Option you will execute – Call/Put (up/down), One Touch, Boundary;

3) Decide how much you are willing to invest / how much you want to win and how much you are willing to lose.

4) Execute the Binary Options trade by picking and clicking the direction – either up / call or down / put.

That is, it! In fact, trading Binary Options with Binary Corporate is even easier and better. Why? Because of the exceptional support, education, amazing training and trading tools you receive when you open an account. Start Trading Now!

Chartist Analysis

Chartist analysis is an investment method based on the study of price and volume of the various listed securities. It is also called graphical analysis. This method is especially used by traders who apply in the very short term to take positions on the market. The chartist analysis can however be used in the medium and long term.

For this, it is based on historical price and identifies areas of reversing trend. These areas are called psychological support and resistance. At their approach, based on the historical price, investors tend to buy near support and sell near resistance. This is the mimicry of investors who gives strength to the reversal. But beware, this method is not fool proof, support and resistance are made to be broken.

During their break, there is often bullish or bearish acceleration in either a support or resistance. Subsequently a study of figures formed by the stock can be performed. These figures, such as the bull W, triangle, and many others are all indications to determine the evolution of the share price.

Mathematics plays an important role in the chartist analysis, we can calculate the potential increase or decrease. However, the chartist analysis is a study of investor behavior, their psychology. This method is in contrast to the fundamental analysis that it is based on the study of business in these accounts.

Currency Pair

FOREIGN EXCHANGE CURRENCY PAIR (Currency Cross)

History

If you look at an example of a currency pair such as the EUR/USD you will see three-letter designations for each currency correspondent to the country, although some countries use the same currency from a different country, for example, Turks and Caicos Islands, Timor-Leste use the US Dollar (USD) as opposed to their own currency.

Regardless, each currency has a designated currency code according to ISO 4217. In addition, Commodities such as Gold, Silver, Platinum, etc., also have designated three-letter codes, e.g. XAU for Gold, XPD for Palladium, XPT and XAG for Platinum and Silver.

What is ISO 4217, you may ask? According to SVN, the Swiss Association for Standardization, “ISO 4217 is the International Standard for currency codes. The most recent edition is ISO 4217:2008. The purpose of ISO 4217:2008 is to establish internationally recognized codes for the representation of currencies. Currencies can be represented in the code in two ways: a three-letter alphabetic code and a three-digit numeric code.”

Base Currency vs. Quote Currency

The United States Dollar, constitutes approximately two-thirds of holdings, is the most commonly held, and currently the Euro is the second in terms of holdings, making up approximately a quarter of reserves.

The Three Commodity Pairs

The commodity currencies originate from countries which have large quantities of natural resources or commodities. These natural resources usually represent the majority of these countries’ exports, and subsequently the strength of these economies are highly dependent on the market prices of these commodities.

Not all countries rich in natural resources have currencies which are commonly traded. As a result, trading will usually involve only these three countries which are not only rich in commodities, but also have free floating or liquid currency. These are Australia, New Zealand, and Canada represented by the Australian Dollar, The New Zealand Dollar, and the Canadian Dollar!

Euro

EUR/USD: The Euro and The U.S Dollar

The EUR/USD currency cross (with the Euro as the base currency and the U.S. Dollar as the quote currency) is also considered a major cross pairing two ‘reserve’ currencies, the Euro considered the second largest of the reserve currencies. The EUR/USD pair is not only traded more than any other cross, it is also the ‘youngest’ currency pair.

The Euro is under the control and administration of the ECB (European Central Bank) which sits in Brussels and as such, sets the monetary policy of the Euro. It is also the exclusive currency of the Eurozone’s 18 member states, which have a population exceeding 341 Million. EU Member States:
Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain.

History of the Euro & the European Union

A political and economic merger of European Sovereign Nations, The European (EU) was officially formed when the Maastricht Treaty was signed on February 7, 1992. The Monetary Union is comprised of 18 member nations and was established in 1999. The Euro became an ‘accounting currency’ on New Year’s Day, 1999 and the banknotes and coins were put into circulation on New Year’s Day, 2002. Since the end of 2002, the Euro has traded in value above the U.S. Dollar.

The Eurozone Economy

Considered a single market economy, the European Union has the highest GDP in the world, with over $18 Trillion, surpassing the US, China and Japan as the largest economy. 161 of the Fortune Global 500 are headquartered in the EU. Estimated at 30% of the Global wealth, the EU holds the largest net wealth.

Factors Affecting the EUR/USD currency pair

The highest level of trading of the EUR/USD occurs during the British 1 and the New York 1. Similar to the GBP, in that it is a highly liquid currency cross pairing two of the largest economies, and reserve currencies, a variety of domestic and international economic factors come into play when considering the foreign exchange and trading this currency.

Due to the fact that the Euro has over 18 Countries which use the currency as their official currency, the economic factors of each country play a major role in price fluctuations. The EU Member countries with GDP’s (gross domestic product) have a greater impact on the value of the Euro. Other factors contributing to or impacting the value of the Euro are employment (or unemployment), trade balance, and inflation. Rising and falling commodity prices also have a direct correlation.

A market index (sometimes called a stock index) is a measure of the value of a portfolio or group of stocks, bonds, real estate, or other investments or assets. For example, the creation of indices such as the Ethical Investing Indices, which are exclusive to corporations fulfilling socially responsible commitments to programs related to biological, ecological, green, philanthropic criteria, e.g. Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

We also see an evolving trading and trading platform technology. The Binary Corporate Index Trading Platform now allows traders at any level of experience to begin trading indices, in a matter of minutes, without the complexities historically inherent in index trading. Registering Your Account is a simple 1, 2, 3 process.

Index Types

Indices (indexes) are typically classified (categorized) according to how the price of that index is determined. One category is price weighted indices such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) and the AMEX Major Market Index.

Price Weighted Indices

Their value is computed by a weighted average of the prices of the stocks which are represented by that specific index. Therefore, the price of each stock within the index is the only criterion upon which the value is computed.

Value Weighted / Capitalization Weighted Indices

Different from price weighted is value weighted or capitalization weighted index which considers the value and size of a company when fixing value. Here are a few examples of Market Value Weighted Indices / Capitalization Weighted Indices:

NASDAQ

The NASDAQ is an acronym and symbol for the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations. The NASDAQ index, also known as the NASDAQ, is the Index which measures the performance of the NASDAQ stock market.

NASDAQ was created in 1971, at a milestone in the history of stock exchanges, using the techniques of communication between brokers implemented by Reuters. This was the first electronic stock market to open in the world. It was founded by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) (which can be translated as “National Association of Exchange”).

NASDAQ is the natural outlet for venture capital funds, a funding method that is willing to take the risk of losing money in three cases out of four, but compensate with the fourth. You will normally find only large corporations and tech companies on NASDAQ, representing industries such as banking, retail, biotechnology, industry, transport, etc.

The NASDAQ stock market index is calculated taking into account all listed companies in the stock market NASDAQ and not taking into account only a subset of these companies as is the case for several other indices. In the NASDAQ index, the importance of each company is proportional to its market capitalization. This index is quite volatile as the stock market NASDAQ contains several high-tech companies whose share value is more volatile than the value of shares of companies in the traditional economy.

Trading the NASDAQ on the Binary Corporate Binary Options Trading Platform is an easy 1, 2, 3 process. For example, if the EUR/USD hit 1.3700 during the day, then came back down, but went back up to 1.3700 and floated or again came back down, that can be called hitting resistance or hitting a resistance level at 1.3700. When this happens it is because the buyers and sellers are balanced, regardless of volume at the time. As soon as buyers number more than sellers, than resistance is penetrated and can then become support, as the currency pair can go pass, then come back to hover once again at a resistance / support level.

Creating a trading plan and adhering to that plan is risk management. A stop loss or profit limit is a form of risk management. Trading only a certain percentage of your account in each trade is managing risk.

Certain trading strategies have been created with the exclusive focus of risk management. Options and Option spread strategies are sometimes designed specifically to hedge or offset risk in another trade involving stocks, commodities, or futures. One price bounce does not determine support, but repeated price action stopping on a specific price level, like 00 lends support. For example, if the GBP/JPY (Pound / Yen Currency Cross) has bounced at 173.00 then that may be a natural line of support or resistance. Support lines or resistance lines can reverse once they are pierced. For example, if price of the GBP/JPY comes down, and bounces 2 or 3 times at 173.00, then falls below to 172.50, 173.00 could now become resistance if price moves back up.

Technical Analysis

Technical analysis is the study of price action as reflected on charts of a market, asset class, or underlying instrument and the study of various indicators of derived classes (underlying) in order to anticipate the evolution, and subsequent direction of markets and the specific asset which you are trading.

This graphical extrapolation applies to all types of markets: indexes, equities, fixed income, commodities, options, futures, etc. It is not limited to equity markets; the same tools and methods that are mastered can then be applied to any (other) type of underlying asset when its price is determined by the meeting of supply and demand.

The main tool of the technical analyst is the graph that allows the visualization and analysis of an underlying asset. Regardless of the fundamentals, regardless of whatever may be occurring in the market now or in the future, the graphical chart reflects exactly what is happening at any specific moment in time.

Hence, successful trading ultimately boils down to your ability to ‘see’ – trading is a visual acuity, your ability to recognize repetitive chart patterns and to act, to execute instantly upon recognition of a trend reversal pattern, recognition of support, resistance, retraces, pull backs, etc.

The objective, the goal and purpose of trading, and therefore technical analysis is the ability to correctly forecast or recognize trends, and if possible, the signs of trend reversals. It involves identifying market conditions that give statistically identical, repetitive results; at least to a statistical probability of a minimum of 70%. 85% is preferable and attainable.

Technical analysis does not purport to be an exact science. It is closer to a human science as its object of study is directly focused on understanding the psychology of the market and how human nature does have waves, bio rhythms, repetitive patterns and behavior, for example, the Fibonacci retracement tool is based on absolute mathematical patterns in nature and thus, human nature.
Principles There are three fundamental axioms that governs and is the foundation of technical analysis:

1) The market takes everything into account

This axiom is certainly the most important of all 3 because it justifies the fact that technical analysis is only interested in current, at the moment, market data and not to fundamentals such as economic statistics and business results. Indeed, if, at any moment, the price of an underlying asset immediately incorporates all available information on the markets, then there is no need to focus on the fundamentals as it is almost impossible to enjoy an announcement effect.

2) Courses follow trends

It is the observation of historical price charts which gives the technical analyst the market trends. The study of a stock chart identifies phases, increases and decreases in phases over periods ranging from minutes to years.

To explain this phenomenon is not just due to chance, technical analysis is based on the psychological analysis of crowds. Market, as a crowd, can be taken either in a dynamic optimism (or euphoria), or in a dynamic pessimism (or despair), and in a hesitation phase. This is reflected in a graph by periods of rising, falling or sideways or stagnant prices; times we will identify respectively as uptrend, as downtrend, and as range.

3) History repeats

There is a popular, almost famous disclaimer on all financial corporate sites, including ours – that past performance isn’t indicative of the present or future – words to that effect. Here’s the truth – the future is determined by the past market and the same “mistakes” always repeat (formation of speculative bubbles and crashes).

Again, this idea stems from the psychological analysis of a crowd. Sociologists who are interested in crowds claim that they have identified specific behaviors having no link with a simple sum of individual behaviors. A crowd is driven by certain principles that manage to transcend the psychology of the individual component. Everything will have more influence on the part that each party will have in the least because of the phenomenon of imitation existing within any group.

The decision of an individual in a crowd is based on the idea that it is the decision that will persuade the other individuals in the crowd and not the normal perception of reality. This applies to markets that crash and speculative bubbles which are recurring; these are the best examples of the existence of the principle of imitation, which prohibits any lesson from the past to the crowd.

Laws or principals or repetitive patterns are to be noticed by technical analysts and then to attempt to take advantage of the recurring phenomena; techies know that there are no absolutes and that they usually employ several confirming scenarios before a decision, rather than take action on one technical factor.

As a trader, you should consider technical analysis as a practical approach to trading than as a perfect science and know that in order to execute winning trades, you will always have losing trades. No one trades at 100% no matter how experienced and skilled they may be.

The strength of technical analysis which can lead many to consider it as a science (social and not hard) is that it is produced and continually used by traders who have a daily and pragmatic view of the markets and continually behave in predictable patterns, proving the efficacy of this approach to the markets. A famous quote with respect to technical analysis is that of George Lanes: “The trend is your friend” – this sentence sums up the advantages but also controversial technical analysis.

Theoretical Value

Black-Scholes is a mathematical formula for predicting fair theoretical value.

Theta

Greek letter for a change in an options contract’s value.

Tick / Tick Chart

On tick charts, this is the incremental price movement shown as a ‘tick’ – when price moves higher, this is an uptick, when price moves lower, this is a downtick.

Time Decay

Refers to the loss in value in an options contract as time continues to pass to expiration of the contract.

Time Spread

By purchasing and selling options at the same strike price but different expiry times you get a time spread which is also another term for a calendar options spread strategy or a horizontal options spread strategy. An example of going long would be buying the September 45 Call and Selling the August 45 Call.

Time Value

How much the current options exceeds the intrinsic value is the out of money price or at the money options price which is always extrinsic value or time value.

Trader

One who participates in the purchase and sale of securities in the pit, over the counter, online, offline, however the transactions take place. Usually refers to short term or one who only holds positions for limited periods of time. Sometimes referred to as an investor, the terms can sometimes have different meanings. An investor in real estate is not one who trades. A FOREX day trader may not be an investor, holding a cash account at a brokerage exclusively for profits gained from taking short term positions in a security. Also refers to the people who are on the floor or pits of exchanges.

Trading Level

This is a term which refers to your level of experience, education, level of training, and subsequent trading success or lack thereof. How much you understand of assets, etc.

Trading Plan

A trading plan is your defined path, your map that will show you the road to your destiny, which is whatever you decide your ‘destiny’ is. In the world of trading, you want every edge you can get in order to be a ‘winning’ trader. If you are already a trader, then you understand the value of a trading plan. If you are just starting your ‘trading’ path, then follow the path of successful traders, and every one of them has a trading plan.

Success as a trader is determined by many factors, some more critical than others. One person’s success or failure in life and business itself are factors of having planned correctly or sometimes a result of not having planned when you should have. As the owl says in Alice in Wonderland, “If you don’t know where you’re going, any path will get you there.” In trading, as in life, failing to plan is an absolute plan to fail.

Would you like to create a trading plan? Start a winning trading account? Regardless of your level of experience, our market insight is exceptional.

Trailing (Stop) Trigger

This is the price or trigger that ‘stop’ activates.

Trailing Stop

This is a risk / money management strategy or technique whereby you first place a stop loss before or immediately after you execute a trade (very advisable to activate stop losses before the execution of any trade or trading). Let’s say that the trade you executed starts to win, go in the direction favorable to your trade – up if you bought, down if you sold – a trailing stop automatically trails behind the trade. For example, let’s say your initial stop loss was 10. If your trade goes up 10, depending on the criteria set by you, the stop loss could move up or follow your trade. Your new
stop loss would hypothetically be 0.

Trailing stops are used to protect profit as much as they’re designed to stop loss. A trailing stop loss can go in either direction, depending on the buy or sell order.

Transaction Costs

Refers to fees, commission, margin fees, and / or exchange fees charged by the brokerage or investment house, which originate from initiation of maintenance of a position.

Direction of a market, of an asset or a specific security such as a stock or a currency pair. The trend could be for 1 minute, for 30 minutes, 4 hours, 1 day, week, year, etc. The time frame is only important to the person who may be using the market direction to determine a trade or the best entry for a trade. For example, if I am watching the 1 min, 5 min, 30 min, and 4 hour charts of the EUR/USD and at the exact hour, on the hour, when all 4 charts are finishing one candle and another candle is starting, and all of them reflect the same color – for example, blue for going up, and they
were all red for downward direction, and at the top of the hour they are all turning blue, you possible have a trend reversal.

Following the trend, understanding that “the trend is your friend” is one of the basic foundations of trading correctly and successfully. You must execute trades that are in the direction or trend of the market or you will get eaten like a shark. Or at least your account will.

Trend Line

A trend line, drawn correctly, shows the direction during a specific time period, of the price action of that security, asset or market. To draw a trend line correctly, you first determine visually in what direction the chart is showing price action. For example, if you are using candlesticks, and each candle or wave on the chart has a higher high than the last high, and you have 3 to 4 candles in a row, you can draw a line from the bottom of the lowest of each candle or wave to the next higher low, and to the next higher low as shown in the chart picture below. The red bars and the line underneath is showing an uptrend.
